The Bureau of Meteorology’s outlook suggests normal seasonal rainfalls across much of Australia with northern territories having higher rainfall potential.
With the growing season kicking off from March-May and the expected rainfall, slugs and snails will again be a concerning factor this season.
Following dry periods, there is high probability of slugs and snails being present in high numbers in aestivation, remaining dormant in soil and residue.
Even short and isolated rainfall can be enough to activate the slug and snail activity.
If left unchecked, they can escalate to high numbers per square meter and can devastate pasture re-establishment and crops at emergence.
Wetter conditions favour the use of higher technology baits such as SluggOff as they are resistant to rain and mould up to four weeks, ensuring they remain palatable and effective for longer.
SluggOff continues to be a trusted and effective control option.
The key to the products success is its shape (Lentil-Shape) and palatable formulation with the slim biting edge allowing easy consumption even for the smallest juvenile.
With high palatability, rain-fast performance and 100,000 baits per kilogram, it controls all species of slug and snail in all crops and under all weather conditions.
And it delivers reliable control with low application rates of just 3kg/ha for broadacre crops such as cereals and oilseeds and 6kg/ha for high value horticulture and vineyards, while maintaining a lower cost per hectare than other solutions on the market.
“This low application rate benefit alone is a game changer in snail and slug protection resulting in overall costs savings, added with the other benefits of operator safety through low levels of dust and fine particulates and minimised drift during spreading, it is also a more positive environmental story so it’s a win-win on many fronts,” ACTA national sales manager Neil Martin says.
“ Monitoring is the key to successful control,” he explains.
“We recommend growers and agronomists to check for activity following autumn rainfall.
With high palatability, rain-fast performance and 100,000 baits per kilogram, SluggOff controls all species of slug and snail in all crops and under all weather conditions.
“The best time to bait is as soon as possible after autumn rainfall as they reactivate with rain but before crop damage escalates.”
SluggOff is available from all major rural merchants in 8kg, 20kg and 500kg bags.
With slug and snail pressure likely to increase as conditions become favourable, resellers are encouraged to be vigilant for rising demand and plan stock levels early.
