The event, which was held in Bega last year, will be held online in a webinar format from 9 am to noon on Tuesday and Wednesday (July 21 and 22).
Centred around the theme of BUS.IN.ES.S — business, innovation, emerging science and society — the event will discuss the challenges faced by the dairy industry and how dairy operations need to navigate through these challenges, sometimes over unchartered territory like COVID-19.
University of Melbourne farm economist Professor Bill Malcolm will discuss the challenges of managing a dairy farm, NSW DPI's Sheena Carter will explore managing risk on-farm and Nowra dairy farmer Justin Walsh will share his thoughts about how to control risk and drive profit.
Professor Dan Weary, an animal welfare and behaviour expert from Canada's University of British Columbia, will explore the public and producer attitudes towards the industry, while Australian Farm Institute executive director Richard Heath will discuss whether there's a way to overcome institutional risk in agriculture and Young Dairy Network's Emily Neilson from the Hunter Valley will talk about the challenges of the educated consumer.
Wednesday's webinars will cover all things innovative and emerging, with virtual fencing, robotic milking, vocal characteristics of peripartum dairy cows, impact of feeding management on enteric methane emission of dairy cows and whether calves benefit from spending time with older animals all on the agenda.
