Celebrating legendary cars

It all started with a passion for 1970s to 1980s Holden classic cars.

Now known as The Legends of the Mountain, the event attracts nationwide attention to a celebration of all things motorsport in Kyabram.

“We own a few classic cars,” co-founder and organiser Chris Hatch said.

“We just met people who knew people along the way, including a few Melbourne clubs that included Aussie Torana Legends Inc,” he said.

“It’s a charity event and we work in conjunction with the Kyabram Lions Club to share the profits within the community.

“It’s about bringing people to the town, which benefits economically, and sharing the history of motorsport.”

The event started in 2018, but has been on hold the past two years due to COVID-19.

Chris said he was excited for the event to return, but it was “hard work”.

It’s destined to be one of the biggest events on the calendar, with the Saturday night being dedicated to the Holden v Ford supercar rivalry. Past drivers like Dick Johnson, John Bowe, Glen Seton, Brad Jones and Gary Rogers will grace the stage.

There is plenty to look forward to, as people get to showcase and view vehicles from decades ago, while also having close-up access to a couple of Supercar Legends.

“We’ve had the original 05 Brock Commodore, Allan Grice Hatchback Torana, some original Bathurst winning cars, just a lot of super cars back in the day,” Chris said.

“We try to concentrate on the Holden v Ford rivalry from back in the 70s and 80s as it seems to be the biggest point of interest. Hence the name Legends of the Mountain (Bathurst).”

The event is planned for late February 2023, with dates to be confirmed.
