The Border Flywheel Club and Heritage Museum is gearing up for its 28th annual Barham Vintage Engine and Machinery Rally on May 16 and 17.
This weekend event offers something special for machinery enthusiasts and families looking for a unique day out.
Border Flywheel Club vice-president Richard Edwards, a rally veteran since day one, shared his plans for this year’s rally.
“I've scaled back on bringing rock crushers and such, but I’ll be tending to the steam engines, making sure they’re well-fed with wood,” Richard said.
The rally will be a treasure trove of vintage machinery, including a 1910 Clayton and Shuttleworth engine and a newly acquired Ruston behemoth from Selleck’s orchard.
“It’s a six-tonne monster, a single-cylinder beast from around 1920,” Richard said.
This year’s theme celebrates English and Australian engines, mainly stationary engines.
“If you’ve got any old-timers who can still work those contraptions, we’d love to have them on board,” Richard said.
Visitors can watch the impressive 25 horsepower Marshall engine in action, alongside the fascinating Eagle Creek pump steam engine.
The event will also feature radio-controlled model trucks, a working belt-driven hay baler display, and a classic car show and shine for car enthusiasts.
Exhibitors can enjoy free unpowered on-site camping and a meal on Saturday night.
The rally will take over the Border Flywheel Club and Heritage Museum at 9 Jamieson Ave, Barham, running from 9.30am to 5pm on Saturday and 9.30am to 3pm on Sunday.
