The Euroa Saleyards looked very different on April 1, when the town's Special Cattle Sale was held under strict, but necessary, COVID-19 restrictions.

After several meetings between associated agents and Strathbogie Shire Council, it was decided cattle numbers would be capped at about 800, with cattle spread out in every second pen.
“The highlight of the sale was the run of spring-drop weaners, which sold to strong demand and outstanding prices considering what is happening in the world,” Elders Euroa agent Joe Allen said.
A well-presented line-up of spring-drop Angus steers, which weighed about 250 kg, made between $4.30 and $5/kg; while heavier steers, weighing 350 kg or greater, made $3.50/kg or better.
Heavier heifers also recorded upwards of the $3.50/kg mark.
Mr Allen said the sale went well overall and would provide a precedent for future sales that are planned during the pandemic.
