Participants staged a 'sit in' on the Tocumwal bridge crossing the Murray River, chanting "no water, no food" before marching across the bridge.
An effigy of Federal Water Minister David Littleproud was thrown from the bridge by those protesting.
A number of speakers also addressed the crowd, calling for the Murray-Darling Basin Plan to be fixed.
EARLIER: Voices for change and supportive applause is echoing across Tocumwal, as at least 1000 people rally to 'Fix the Basin Plan'.
Farmers and community members from across the district have flooded the Tocumwal Foreshore, many travelling for hours to show their support.
Farmers are furious at the Federal Coalition, which they say refuses to acknowledge the Murray-Darling Basin Plan is a failure, or do anything to fix its faults.
Rally organisers say they want the Coalition to listen to their concerns, but their pleas all seem to fall on deaf ears.
Organisers say it was extremely disappointing to learn Federal Water Minister, David Littleproud was visiting the region this week but had refused to attend the rally.
The ‘March Across The Murray’ is being held at the conclusion of the ‘Fix The Basin Plan Communities Crisis Rally’, which started at 11am at the Tocumwal Foreshore.
More to come.
