Campaspe Shire Council and Rushworth and District Community Bank will be running an open garden festival in Girgarre, where guests can view five spectacular gardens.

The Sunday, October 27 event is part of a major fundraiser for the Girgarre Community Car, which is used to transport the sick and elderly to medical appointments.The community car is highly sought after in rural areas, transporting patients as far as Melbourne.The money raised from the event will also be used for the ongoing development of stage one of the Gargarro Botanical Gardens.Visitors can take in the serenity of new gardens as well as the main garden called Bonshaw.There is always something new to see at Bonshaw, as the gardens are continuously being rotated each year.A barbecue will be available at the Bonshaw garden with tea and coffee for a small charge from 11.30 am and high tea will be on offer from 2 pm to 4 pm free of charge.Other attractions include the Green Thumbs Nursery, floral art demonstration, art display Black Cockatoo Gallery by Ross Franzi and live music performance by Pete Gibson between 1 pm and 3 pm.Artist Ross Franzi is also an accredited wildlife carer and demonstrates his concern for the environment through his artworks of rural subjects.For an extra bonus, a raffle will be drawn at 4 pm with a floral patchwork quilt as the first prize as well as other prizes of metal wall art and gift vouchers.
Garden passes can be purchased on the day at Girgarre Community Cottage and will include a map of the area.
