Florina Pre-school and Daycare children enjoyed learning about paddock-to-plate last week, with a visit to Prima Fresh Orchards in Tatura.

A dozen excited children wandered through the rows of fruit trees, helping themselves to the odd apple or pear on the way.
Florina director Kristy-Lee Ralph said the visit aimed to teach the children where fruit came from and how it made its way onto the shelves in the supermarket.
‘‘Prima Fresh donated us a couple of fruit trees a few years ago, so we actually grow apples at our centre,’’ she said.
‘‘We’ve brought the kids out to show them on a bigger scale where fruit actually comes from — some children believe it really does come from the supermarket.’’
The children went on a guided tour of the orchard, before venturing into the packing shed to see how the production line works.
Prima Fresh owner Gerard Alampi hoped the children would see the process during the growing and harvest stages of fruit.
‘‘We want kids to understand fruit growing on trees and the natural part of it all, which is really important,’’ he said.
