Now in its 10th year, the Alexandra Rodeo is set to be a blockbuster, featuring a full rodeo program alongside live music, an online auction, rides, stalls, and plenty of food and drink.
Funds raised will support several organisations that played key roles during the bushfire response, including the Rotary Club of Alexandra, Alexandra Lions Club, Farm Angels and Rural Aid Australia.
Event organiser Andrew Embling told Country News the goal was to raise $250,000 through ticket sales, an online auction, donations and event‑day activities.
The day will begin with the first rodeo at 3pm and run until midnight, with the grand entry taking place at 6pm.
Local singer Tayla Arnett will perform the national anthem, followed by a special walk‑out recognising first responders and community heroes.
The night’s rodeo program will include women’s ranch broncs riding, saddle broncs, barrel racing, bareback and bull riding events.
Live music will feature throughout the evening, with performances from country music artists Pete Denahy and the Mason Boys, before the night concludes with a set from three‑time Golden Guitar winner Andrew Swift.
Mr Embling said the rodeo’s atmosphere was a major drawcard for crowds.
“Rodeos are a sport that’s been around for many years, and people just love the hype of the bulls and bucking sports,” he said.
“This year we have a strong women’s competition, with some great riders coming through — they’re not to be missed.”
Prize money will be on offer across the night, with 10 buckles up for grabs, along with two unique Alexandra Rodeo buckles awarded to spectators.
One will go to an online ticket holder, while the second will be presented to the ‘fan of the night’, judged by rural mental health advocate Warren Davies.
The event was originally scheduled for January but was postponed on the advice of emergency services, as bushfires swept through the region.
