An Evening to Forget is a free event for farmers, rural businesses and their families happening on Friday, June 21, from 5.30pm to 9pm at Euroa Showgrounds.
A free dinner will be provided by the Euroa Agriculture Society, Rotary Club of Euroa and the Euroa branch of the Country Women’s Association.
There will be door prizes on the night and children will be treated to a 40-minute puppet extravaganza, followed by a movie.
There will also be an opportunity to learn more about the variety of services and networks available to farmers and agriculture businesses.
Rural counsellor Ivan Lister and rural financial counsellors Jim Moll and Andrew Hipwell will be there to speak with anyone who is interested in finding out more about any of their services.
There will also be representatives from Gecko Clan Landcare Network, Granite Creeks Landcare Network, Alliance for Water Stewardship, Longwood Plains Catchment Management Network and Strathbogie Ranges Catchment Management Network.
The representatives will be available during the evening to speak with people on various issues.
Honeysuckle Creek Ward councillor and Sustainable Development Reference Group chair Kate Stothers said the council and the Euroa community believed it was time to reach out.
‘‘We wanted this event to be a show of support and a sense of solidarity from our community that farmers, their families and the businesses they support are crucial to the social and economic fabric of our region,’’ Cr Stothers said.
SDRG member and local farmer Anna Toland said event organisers hoped to give rural citizens a night off and a chance to catch up with old friends and neighbours they might not have seen for years.
‘‘We know that some are doing it tough due to the dry conditions and lack of feed and water and we really wanted to organise a fun, free family event for them to forget,’’ Ms Toland said.
‘‘We heard about the wonderful success of the Moglonemby Hall event in April and we wanted to do something similar and invite the farmers in for a free meal and some entertainment for the kids.’’
