The baskets are part of the Victorian Container Deposit Scheme. They sit on the side of public bins and are there for everyone in the community to use.
Here is how they work. If you have 10c eligible containers, pop them in the basket for others to collect and cash.
Or, if you spot containers already in the basket, you can collect them and cash them in at the Foott Benalla CDS deposit station at 22 Irwin Rd, Benalla.
Every eligible container is worth 10c.

Benalla Mayor Bernie Hearn said the baskets were a small change that could make a big difference.
"This is about making it easy for everyone to do the right thing," Cr Hearn said.
"If you have just finished a can of soft drink at lunch or maybe are walking around the lake and see a stray bottle or can, you can pop it in a basket.
“Someone else can collect it and turn it into cash, or you can do it yourself. Either way, it stays out of the gutter and out of our waterways."
Council is also asking locals to nominate other public bin locations around Benalla Rural City that needs a bin basket. You can do that by calling 5760 2600.
The initiative was funded by the VICReturn and Benalla Rural City Council.
