VicGrid declared five onshore zones, South West, Central Highlands, Gippsland, Western and North West, along with the Gippsland Shoreline zone, connecting offshore wind to the grid via underground cables.
The proposed Central North zone spans parts of Campaspe, Greater Shepparton, Dookie, Benalla and Greater Bendigo, with two sections running between Bendigo and Tatura in the west and Shepparton and Glenrowan in the east.
The proposed Central North zone includes some of the state’s most productive cropping land, particularly in the areas around Dookie.
VicGrid has already reshaped the zone's boundaries in response to community feedback, reducing its footprint near Shepparton, avoiding irrigated farmland in the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District and removing a large north-western section due to land use constraints.
Final boundaries remain undefined.
VicGrid will soon confirm timing for another round of community consultation.
