A burst sprinkler last Saturday morning 400m from the finishing line resulted in Corowa Race Club’s biggest day of the year being called off.
It was a huge disappointment for all that the seven event program was cancelled despite efforts to provide a solution with some rail movement.
But the efforts were not successful. Racing NSW advised of the cancellation shortly before the start of the program.
The Corowa Cup meeting was postponed, awaiting more information from Racing NSW.
“I’ve written to Racing NSW with our report and we’ll see if we can get another day,” Corowa Race Club President Brian Scolyer told The Free Press.
“There was the wet patch at the bend and we tried to overcome it. It was extremely disappointing what happened. We’re certainly hoping to get word from Racing NSW about another day.”
Mr Scolyer did, however, convey some good news from the previous night. “I had the pleasure of presenting Gary Poidevin OAM with life membership of the Corowa Race Club,” he said. A story will appear in next week’s edition of The Free Press accordingly.
