Matthew Sebastian and Dipu George jointly own a hobby farm on Benalla-Tocumwal Rd and live in Cobram.
Mr Sebastian said they had some goats and hens on the farm when the Yarroweyah fire broke out, but the animals were luckily saved by firefighters who let them out.
“The next day, Sunday morning, some people informed us through Facebook that they found some goats near the channel bank,” he said.
“So we went there to get the goats and took them back here and are just keeping them in a small yard.”
The firefighters managed to save the farm’s two sheds, a trailer and hay, but unfortunately all the fencing and posts have been damaged.
All seven paddocks of a hobby farm on Benalla-Tocumwal Rd were burnt in the Yarroweyah fire.
“We had seven fully finished paddocks here, all of them had water facilities, and they are all gone,” Mr Sebastian said.
Now the clean-up begins, only a few days after the fire, smoke still in the air, the pair are working hard to fix the fencing, so their goats can be let out into a bigger area.
Mr Sebastian said it was still difficult to accept the situation, but they were incredibly grateful to the firefighters for saving what they could, especially the animals.
“The main thing is, the community and the firefighters, everyone, did an amazing job,” he said.
“Otherwise we would have lost everything, they saved the main things, we are very happy.”
