“We’ve had the right amount of rain at the right time,” Ms Toland said.
“Everything is lining up perfectly.”
Strong rainfall and a warmer than average winter have provided enough grass for lambs to feed on.
This compares to last year when the couple had to feed the lambs every second day.
Buoyed by the perfect season and strong lamb prices, the couple are preparing for an upcoming ram sale at their property, Toland Poll Merino Stud, in Violet Town.
Featuring 50 poll merinos, all around 14 months old, the sale will be held at 1888 Feltrim Rd. Inspections commence at 10am, with the sale beginning at 1pm.
Ms Toland said most of the rams were from their own bloodline; however, other bloodlines including Kiandra, Trigger Vale and Rocklyn are also included.
The stud was started by Ms Toland’s father 64 years ago. He originally operated it alongside his brother and later the couple before they took it over in 2020.
While merinos were originally known for their wool quality, increasingly they are also being used for meat.
Therefore, improving the eating quality of their product has been a major focus for the pair.
While maintaining the stud is a lot of work, the couple wouldn’t have it any other way.
“We enjoy it, it’s a lifestyle,” Ms Toland said.
