Grants help on offer for those in dry times

Northern Victorian farmers impacted by dry conditions are being encouraged to access grants and programs available to help manage farm businesses now and into the future.

Northern Dry Seasonal Conditions co-ordinator Bianca Stapleton said the Victorian Government had so far provided almost $45million to assist farmers and farming communities across the state.

‘‘There are a number of grants available to assist farmers manage current conditions and prepare their farm and business for a positive future,’’ she said.

‘‘If you are thinking about applying for any of the assistance available, I strongly encourage you to do so now; you may be eligible for more than you think.’’

The Farm Business Assistance program will provide a one-off $2500 support payment to dairy Farm Household Allowance recipients and young dairy farmers in eligible shires in north and north-west Victoria.

Ms Stapleton said there were a number of other programs available including the On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Support Grants Program and the On-Farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme.

The $5000 On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Support Grant Program provides funding for stock containment areas and water reticulation systems and equipment.

‘‘We have also had positive feedback from many farmers who have attended our technical decision-making workshops delivered across the state — with more happening as we speak.’’
