The Goulburn Broken Regional Waterway Strategy will set key directions for action as well as priorities for funding for the coming decade, to improve the health of our rivers and wetlands and help sustain what our communities value about waterways.
Goulburn Broken CMA river and wetland health program manager, Simon Cowan, said the first step in seeking early community input to the strategy was through a survey.
“Healthy waterways are central to daily life in the Goulburn Broken region,” Mr Cowan said.
“The Goulburn Broken Regional Waterway Strategy will guide choices that affect everyone from Traditional Owners, farmers and local councils to tourism operators, recreational fishers, landholders and future generations who depend on healthy waterways.
“To get this important strategy right, we need local insight so first up we’re calling for participants to take part in an online survey.
“By completing this survey, participants can help identify practical actions that balance the values and uses of our waterways in a changing climate and achieve the community’s vision for the future.”
The survey is being conducted by the University of Melbourne on behalf of the Goulburn Broken CMA.
It will take about 10 minutes to complete. Participants will go into a draw to win one of three $200 gift vouchers, as a thank you for undertaking the survey.
“Following the survey, the next phase of community consultation is face-to-face workshops for those who are interested. These will be held in Shepparton, Benalla, Yea and Seymour in July,” Mr Cowan said.
“Once completed, this strategy will replace the current Goulburn Broken Waterway Strategy developed in 2014.
“The Goulburn Broken catchment’s rivers and wetlands play such a vital role in the lives of our community, so it’s important community members have their say about how our waterways should be managed for future generations.”
