Grilled pears are great alongside pork and sausages — and they're even better when served with ice-cream, whipped cream or frozen yoghurt.
All you need for this recipe is pears, oil and your favourite spices (cinnamon, masala — it depends on what you're going to eat them with).
Step 1: Clean barbecue cooking grate, then bring to medium heat. You should be able to hold your hand close to the cooking grate for two or three seconds before the heat gets too intense.
Step 2: Cut pears in half and scoop/cut out the seeds. Drizzle the pear halves with oil.
Step 3: Put pears cut-side-down on grill and cook for about 10 minutes. Turn them over if you want a completely tender fruit. Cover them while cooking for better results.
Step 4: If you want to use brown sugar/pepper/spice, sprinkle it on the pear after cooking the flat side and turning it over. This lets the sugar or spices melt into the hot surface of the pear.
Tips: Firm pears grill best. You can slice the pears smaller if you want, but if you make them too thin they will get mushy.
