The group chose a few strategic launch points, and released the young fish literally by the bucket load.
The fingerlings were purchased with proceeds from the inaugural Edward Kolety Fishing Challenge in February last year.
Entrant numbers are capped, so don’t waste any time.
We’ll bring you the full story on the Sunday’s fingerling release, and more photos, in Friday’s edition.

And they’ve landed
Bonnie Everett and Makala Finn headed off the the UK with the love and support of the Deniliquin district behind them on Saturday.
The local netballers will spend just over two weeks playing netball across the UK and sightseeing in France as part of the Wanders Australia program.
After featuring a story on the girls’ achievements in our pages on Friday and on social media, the Deni community was overwhelmingly encouraging.
Many messages of support were left on our Facebook page for the young athletes.
We wish them all the best overseas, and look forward to bringing you a wrap up of the tour on their return.
Book your bus
Did your New Year’s resolution include something about being more organised this year?
Even if it didn’t we recommend you get in early to make sure you get the full Play on the Plains experience this year.
Brought to you by the same team who brings you the Deni Ute Muster, Play on the Plains is held at the Muster site on March 9.
The music festival will include performances by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, The Carp Factory, Baker Boy, Northeast Party House, Alex Lahey and Kita Alexander, and a Battle of the Bands competition.
A shuttle bus will operate in Deniliquin and from the Echuca/Moama/Mathoura region, and buses from other regions will be coordinated based on demand and early bookings.
This is why it is important to get in early.
For your event tickets go to www.playontheplains.com.au, and to arrange your bus tickets call Dysons on (03) 5881 1333.
Exciting year for PT
This week marks the start of an exciting year for the team at the Pastoral Times, and we’re bringing you all along for the ride.
In 2024 we celebrate our 165th year of bringing you local news and sport.
We have some great things planned to celebrate the milestone.
So stay tuned ... your PT is bringing you more in 2024.
The Pastoral Times was founded by Dr David Jones in 1859, and it remains one of the longest service newspapers in regional NSW.
Thanks to an exciting local project, early editions of the Pastoral Times can now be viewed on Trove.
The digitisation project is being led by the Deniliquin Genealogy Society with support from the Echuca-Moama Family History Group, Deniliquin & District Historical Society, National Library of Australia, State Library of NSW, Deniliquin Pastoral Times, Edward River Council and Trove.
You can search volumes of the local paper online at trove.nla.gov.au.
If you need any assistance, Geneaology Society members can help you between 10am and 3pm each Friday at Edward River Library. Library staff can also assist you in accessing Trove.
Share your PT moments
Can you help us celebrate our milestone year?
If you have examples or clippings of when you or your family appeared in our pages over the years, we’d love to see them.
Did you perhaps work for the PT and have some memories to share?
Send us a photo or scan of your clippings, or get in touch with us at zoe.mcmaugh@denipt.com.au.
