A group of volunteers from the Beechworth Correctional Centre have made a positive impact on the community by taking part in a cemetery clean-up project.
The John Foord Private Cemetery in Wahgunyah had become overgrown with woody weeds, shrubs and tall grass, making it difficult for visitors to pay their respects to their loved ones buried there.
In total, three truckloads of rubbish were taken to the Rutherglen Waste Recycling Centre.
The clean-up project is part of their community work program.
“Inmates participating in the community work took on the task of clearing the weeds and mowing the grass, bringing the cemetery back to a peaceful and respectful state,” Secretary of the Wahgunyah Progress Association Alan Pleitner told the Free Press.
“They did a great job, and we are very appreciative of their efforts.”
