Julie Collins was moved back to the portfolio she held in opposition as part of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s cabinet reshuffle announced on Sunday, July 28.
The Tasmanian MP will remain the small business minister, but drops the housing and homelessness portfolio.
Murray Watt will move on from agriculture to take up Tony Burke's old portfolio of employment and workplace relations.
Mr Burke will take on home affairs and immigration, on top of his existing roles as arts minister and leader of the House of Representatives.
Mr Albanese has demoted Clare O’Neil (who was home affairs minister) and Andrew Giles (previously immigration minister), who were at the centre of a political firestorm over the handling of a High Court ruling that released more than 150 former detainees.
The reshuffle was spurred by the retirement of Indigenous Australians Minister Linda Burney and Skills and Training Minister Brendan O'Connor, who won't recontest the next election. Indigenous Senator Malarndirri McCarthy takes on Ms Burney’s role.
