Katamatite has launched its new community share table, allowing a surplus of food and other items to find a new home.

Katamatite Community Action Group used funding from the 2021 Australia Post Community Grants and Moira Shire Council Quick Response Grants to acquire the new share table for the town.
Group secretary June Wood said it was a long process to set up the stall.
“We didn’t have anyone to build it because all of the men’s sheds were locked down but in the end we got a Katamatite local to build it for us,” Ms Wood said.
Even without the new look, the share table proved popular during COVID-19 lockdowns.
“It’s just grown and grown - once someone takes something they think about the excess of what they have at home and bring back something,” Ms Wood said.
“We’ve even had flowers and jigsaw puzzles during lockdowns - it doesn’t have to be food.”
Ms Wood said the concept was about people looking after one another.
“This is a small community and some people that normally wouldn’t give, have given,” she said.
“Most people have that giving spirit, and to have this drop-off point gives them somewhere to take their excess products.
“It’s been great for the community and everyone has been really positive about it.”
The share table will help reduce wastage and keep a surplus of fruit off the ground.
