Mr Milgate will be joined by Ballan livestock producer Scott Young as vice-president, following the close of nominations for key VFF office-bearer roles earlier this week.
Both candidates were elected unopposed after being the sole nominees for their positions.
Speaking after the announcement, Mr Milgate said it was an honour to take on the presidency at a critical time for Victorian agriculture.
He said rising input costs, pressure on diesel supplies, competition over land use and the need for fairer regional investment would be among his immediate priorities, particularly with a state election looming.
“This will be a future-shaping year for farmers,” Mr Milgate said.
“The VFF must be front and centre when important decisions are being made, ensuring agriculture’s voice is heard loud and clear.”
Outgoing president Brett Hosking welcomed the appointment of the new leadership team, saying it was the right time to pass the baton.
“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together, maintaining a strong voice for farmers on the issues that matter most,” Mr Hosking said.
“I have no doubt the organisation will continue to grow from strength to strength under new leadership.”
Mr Hosking also thanked farmers across the state for their support during his term, describing it as a privilege to represent Victorian producers.
Mr Milgate said maintaining a close connection with members would be central to his presidency.
“The VFF exists because of farmers,” Mr Milgate said.
“My focus will be on ensuring their concerns and opportunities remain at the heart of everything we do.”
The new president and vice-president will officially begin their terms following the 2026 VFF Conference, to be held in Ballarat on June 2, where the full list of successful office-bearers will be announced.
