The accolade is the first Halliday Wine Companion award under fourth-generation winemaker Nicholas Brown, who took over as chief winemaker in 2007 and steers all winemaking and viticulture pursuits for All Saints Estate and its sister properties.
The release of the 2024 Halliday Wine Companion also saw All Saints Estate retain the hard-earned accreditation of Five Red Stars for its 16th year. To achieve five red stars, a winery must regularly produce wines of exemplary quality and typicity and have at least two wines rated as 95 points or above.
All Saints Estate was also nominated for 2024 Winery of The Year, a testament to not only its fortified wines, but the broader portfolio of red wines and blends.
What is your favourite animal sound?
Do you love the summer night sounds of cicadas? Or the outback howl of dingoes? Are you intrigued by the lyrebird’s mimicry or the mating croaks of frisky frogs?
The search is on to find our most-loved Aussie animal sound.
This National Science Week, ABC Science wants people to go online to eavesdrop on the animal kingdom and vote for their favourite call of the wild.
Twenty-eight different animal sounds have been long-listed by ABC’s resident nature-lovers in consultation with scientists so that people can get to know our local tweets, howls, bellows, barks, chirps, croaks and calls, and vote for their favourites.
For more about each animal and its call, and to vote for your favourite, visit: www.abc.net.au/sounds
The poll opened on July 31. The list will be cut to 10 finalists on August 11, followed by a second round of voting. The winner will be announced on August 18.
Grants open for wine and cider producers
Applications for the fifth round of the Wine Tourism and Cellar Door Grants program is now open for wine and cider producers.
The program provides funding of up to $100,000 to wineries and cellar door operators who grow and promote agri-tourism, largely in regional Australia.
“Our wine is some of the most sought after in the world and makes a significant contribution to our economy and regional Australia’s agricultural industry,” Assistant Secretary for Food Policy Paul Denny said.
“While it has been a tough few years for some parts of Australia’s wine industry, our winemakers and cellar door operators are highly resilient. Providing support to our wine industry will continue to help the local economy and agriculture.”
Application submissions are open until September 30. To apply for the grant and for more information, visit: https://www.wineaustralia.com/wine-tourism-and-cellar-door-grants
Trial avocado shipments to India successful
Avocados Australia says 10 trial shipments of Aussie avocados were successfully received by Indian officials.
Australian Hass avocado growers will now be able to proceed to the next step towards export to India.
“Our access to India rested on the success of these 10 trial shipments so we are very grateful that the process went smoothly; more steps are ahead of us but we are closer to our end goal,” Avocados Australia chief executive officer John Tyas said.
In July, Mr Tyas visited India and met with key stakeholders such as importers, government officials and other important contacts that will have a part to play in the success of Australian avocados in the Indian market.
Avocados Australia has an avocado launch planned in Delhi in the coming months. Market visits to Mumbai and other Indian cities are also planned.
