Owners pleased with ram sale result

Sammon Bros Majella Poll Dorset Flock Ram Sale received an average of $1140, selling 94 rams out of 101 on Friday, September 20 at Shepparton. The sale generated a good crowd with the top-priced ram purchased by Andrew Muller of Molyullah (south of Benalla) for $1800.Stud owner Bill Sammon said he was pleased with the sale."Producers are still unsure of the season ahead and are reluctant to buy too many replacement breeding ewes,” he said.Mr Sammon said most sellers had sold lambs at good money and the market appeared to be very solid.Buyers came from a wide area including Benalla, Nathalia, Nagambie and Strathmerton.

Volume buyers included Malcolm Ellis from Goorambat East, Goulburn Valley Water in Shepparton, Chris and Jimmy Bourke from Nathalia and Jonathon Koop from Glenrowan.

Mr Sammon said there was a lot of interest in the Stockscan figures relating to the potential yield of lambs.

“This is very important when selling over the hooks,” he said.
