Police are urging residents to report livestock thefts following several incidents in the Strathbogie Shire that have gone unreported since March.
On the Eyewatch - Mitchell Police Service Area Facebook page, police said only one criminal incident had been officially reported to date, despite officers from the Violet Town police station being made aware of several thefts.
Multiple reports can often lead to a pattern, which is something officers can monitor and proactively approach, police said.
Knowing where and when offences are occurring can lead to a higher police presence and reduce the risk of further thefts.
Crime reports can also assist with individual insurance claims.
Police are encouraging property owners to install spotlights, trail cameras or CCTV for added protection.
Police are also calling on the public to report all stock and livestock thefts at their earliest convenience, as it may reduce the risk of local farmers falling victim to this type of offending.
Anonymous reports can be made by visiting crimestoppersvic.com.au or calling 1800 333 000.
