Fountaindale Park Colt45 Sallee sold for the top price of $4500 as part of an average price of $1670 for the Katunga stud, owned by the Winzer family.
While not all the cattle sold at the Shepparton Regional Saleyards, Dairy Livestock Services livestock specialist Ben Minogue said a positive was where the cattle that did sell, ended up.
‘‘There was less demand for those cows not in calf and older cows but the big positive was we sold to different areas and a lot of cattle stayed in the area as well,’’ Mr Minogue said.
‘‘We sold to western Victoria, Gippsland and in the north-east as well as into NSW and Tasmania.’’
The tough seasonal conditions played a part in the sale results.
‘‘It was subdued buying and it wasn’t a free-flowing sale by any means,’’ Mr Minogue said.
‘‘It was the first sale of the year in a tough climate and they sold to where we thought.’’
