The 1700km freight line will connect Melbourne and Brisbane, via regional Victoria, NSW and Queensland.
In Victoria, the Tottenham to Albury section of Inland Rail involves upgrading 305km of existing rail corridor between metropolitan Melbourne and the Victoria-NSW border at Albury-Wodonga.
This project will see modifications to existing structures and increased clearances along the rail corridor to provide sufficient height and width to support the safe running of double-stacked freight trains.
Modifications will be carried out at sites in Wandong, Broadford, Tallarook, Seymour, Euroa, Benalla, Glenrowan, Wangaratta and Barnawartha North.
The Victorian section is currently at various stages of design across these sites, with construction scheduled to begin at the first site in Wangaratta later this year.
Australian Rail Track Corporation is committed to working with all communities along the rail alignment and attending events like the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo provides a fantastic opportunity to talk about the project with local communities and hear their views.
As Inland Rail continues to take shape, ARTC is looking for every opportunity to involve local people and businesses in the project and maximise economic and social benefits for regional communities.
With shopfront locations at Benalla, Euroa and Wangaratta, community members are encouraged to keep the conversations going by visiting the ARTC teams.
