David’s extensive experience spans over 30 years working with government, industry and private organisations in Australia and internationally.
His key capabilities include stakeholder engagement, building resilient and adaptable teams, achieving budgetary and financial gains through astute business acumen and targeting research and development projects that deliver priority solutions.
Before joining Sumitomo, he was regional manager Victoria for leading Australian agribusiness AGnVET.
His previous roles include business manager horticulture and technical services at AGnVET, director at MoreLink Asia Pacific Pty Ltd (Singapore), agronomist at I K Caldwell (Victoria) and industry development officer at Agriculture Victoria.
He also holds an Associate Diploma in Agribusiness and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Agriculture) from Melbourne University.
Sumitomo Chemical Australia managing director Brett Ryan says David’s appointment is a significant step towards driving growth across the business.

He adds David’s appointment follows an extensive search for an exceptional candidate to lead an expanded sales network.
David says Sumitomo’s product range, including biostimulants and several proprietary products now under development, appeal to his primary objective to help producers protect their crops and increase productivity while improving industry outcomes generally.
He will lead a team of 10 regional managers strategically based near key growing regions around Australia.
