Located behind the IGA supermarket since being introduced to Deniliquin in 2017, a spokesperson for Exchange for Change this week announced the machines would be relocated to the Hardinge St shopping complex from March this year.
“The machine will close prior to removal, at 10pm on Wednesday, March 4,” the spokesperson said.
“It is expected to re-open in its new home in the Deniliquin Plaza car park on Thursday, March 12 at 7am.
“The Deniliquin Return and Earn machine’s new location will be at the back of the car park, near the water tank.
“The new location means recyclers can easily redeem their Return and Earn vouchers at new redemption partner Coles for a discount on shopping or for cash.
“Vouchers from the current Deniliquin Return and Earn machine will be valid at Ritchies IGA Deniliquin for three years from the date of the return.”
Return and Earn network operator, TOMRA Cleanaway, will continue to oversee the container deposit scheme in Deniliquin.
Exchange for Change described Edward River Council residents as “enthusiastic recyclers”.
Its data shows residents have returned more than 47 million eligible bottles, cans and cartons through local return points since the scheme began.
