Thoona CWA branch celebrated its 77th birthday on May 15, with a toe tapping performance by The Ukuladies.
The Ukuladies are a group of ukulele playing women from across northern Victoria and southern NSW, who regularly perform at community events.
Thoona CWA secretary Robyn Goudie said after reading about the group in Country News and seeing them perform earlier this year, the branch thought they’d be a good fit for the birthday celebrations.
“They were free on the day so we invited them along and it was just terrific,” Mrs Goudie said.
The branch also invited residents from Benalla aged-care facility Cooinda.
“The Thoona district doesn't have many musical events these days and the hall is such a magnificent venue, so it was special to see it alive again,” she said.
“These ladies had the crowd really bopping, especially the group from Cooinda, they really know how to enjoy themselves.”
Following an encore request, a delicious afternoon tea was served to the crowd of almost 70 people.
