Operated and managed by Goulburn-Murray Water under the direction of the Murray-Darling Basin Authority, the site is located about 80km downstream of Echuca.
MDBA executive director of river management Jacqui Hickey said the Torrumbarry team had shown a strong commitment to maintaining the weir, lock and grounds to a high standard.
“Torrumbarry plays an important role in supporting the reliable operation of the River Murray system, and this award recognises the professionalism, innovation and teamwork that goes into maintaining such a significant asset,” Ms Hickey said.
“The team impressed us with their strong commitment to safety, efficiency and continuous improvement, helping ensure the weir and lock continue to serve River Murray communities and water users.”
G-MW general manager water storage services Jon McKeown said it was a fantastic achievement for the Torrumbarry team to be awarded the trophy.
“This is well-deserved recognition of the team’s commitment to maintaining assets and facilities to a high standard,” Mr McKeown said.
The MDBA undertakes annual site inspections of important assets along the Murray and meets with on-ground teams who operate and maintain the structures.
First awarded in 1943, the perpetual Senator JS Collings trophy is awarded to the site assessed as the most effectively maintained asset in the River Murray system.
