The group’s platform “Back Victorian Farmers”, sets out five priorities and 15 commitments that the federation is seeking from every party and candidate contesting the 2026 Victorian election.
Among their priorities are removing unfair taxes and regulations, increasing infrastructure spend, protecting productive land, defending Victoria’s farms and backing communities and the next generation.
Among the commitments they are seeking from parties and candidates are scrapping the Emergency Services and Volunteer Fund and committing an extra $2 billion to fix regional roads.
They also want to appoint a Land Use and Food Security Commissioner and protect farmland in law.
Other priorities include establishing Right to Farm laws, lifting wild dog and pest control and delivering the childcare, healthcare and housing that keep farming families in the regions.
Water security is also top of the agenda for the federation.
They are seeking a commitment to deliver the Western Victoria water security and pipeline strategy and continue the fight against federal water buybacks.
VFF president Ryan Milgate said too often politicians did not understand the reality farmers faced
“Far too often we are held back by needless bureaucracy, contradictory rules, rising costs and decisions made by governments without any real understanding of life at the farm gate.” Mr Milgate said.
“This election is a chance to change that.
“Farmers are problem-solvers by nature.
“Give us the right settings, get the barriers out of the way, and we will deliver a stronger, more productive Victoria for generations to come.”
He highlighted that Victorian farmers work just three per cent of Australia's agricultural land, yet produce almost a quarter of the nation's farm output by value.
