An article in Country News (Tuesday, March 7) about planned burns failed to mention the impacts of these burns on some of our native wildlife if the burns go ahead.
In the Strathbogie Forest, it is estimated that the burns will result in the deaths of at least 400 individuals of the nationally endangered greater glider possum, along with deaths of koalas and other wildlife.
These species have already suffered huge losses as a result of the 2019-20 mega-fires through eastern Australia and it deeply concerns our group that the Andrews Government is prepared to undertake these burns knowing the likely death toll for these animals.
We call on the Andrews Government to review its planned burn procedures to provide better care and welfare for our native species.
