I read with interest the letter to the editor from Roger Perry in the News last Friday bemoaning the parrot-like way National Party press releases all come from party headquarters and wondering how different things would be had we voted in a hard-working independent, at federal and/or state level in this electorate.
To take Roger’s theme a little further, I feel we are living in a vacuum where National Party press releases are just reprinted in the local papers without any journalistic scrutiny.
As most voters know, the National Party has form in the area of misleading information, such as that targeted against independent candidate Rob Priestly at last year’s federal election.
It is disappointing that no-one is around to take the National Party to task by calling out any misleading or incorrect information in their press releases.
Can the ‘Voices for Nichols’ (or another group) find a quality, independent candidate to stand up and highlight this misleading information and call the Opposition to account for all the promises made before the election?
Can a re-invigorated Greater Shepparton district Labor Party, under its dynamic new president, Neha Samar, come up with a candidate/spokesperson to highlight to the voters of this region how we are being treated by the National Party?
Either way, with only two years to the next election, the situation is becoming urgent.
