“The Country Fire Authority and Fire Rescue Victoria fleets. As at 16 January, 2026, the CFA’s fleet of firefighting appliances consisted of 2361 vehicles, including 1961 tankers, 218 pumpers, and 44 pumper tankers.
Of those appliances, 297 tankers are over the age of 30 years, and of those 297, 66 are over the age of 36 years.
Greg Leach, Chief Executive Officer of the CFA shared with the committee that this was not an ideal situation:
‘We over a long period of time have had a management principle of wanting to turn our fleet over at 20 years of age for tankers and 15 years of age for pumpers.
But as you can see, our fleet is beyond that, and we continue to advocate with government to ensure that we put forward our whole‑of‑life asset plan so that we can work with government to secure an ongoing funding stream to replace those trucks’.”
