They earned their way to the Sydney carnival based on their performances at the Riverina Cross Country Championships in Gundagai.
Harry Catt (Deniliquin North Public School) finished the Riverina carnival as 8/9 years boys’ champion, while fellow DNPS student Millicent Hall was the 8/9 years girls’ champion.
Also representing North and Riverina at the carnival will be Oliver Hall, who was Riverina’s 11 years boys’ champion.
Zaria Wilson-Baker (Mathoura Public School) was crowned the Riverina’s 10 years girls’ champion.
Levi Robson (Deniliquin South Public School) will also compete in Sydney after finishing as the Riverina’s 10 years boys’ runner-up, and Bella Garner (Hay Public School) earned a spot after finishing fifth in the 12 years girls’.
The six were among 32 from the Deniliquin Zone to compete at Gundagai.
There were exceptional results for the zone, including four age group champions.
After a simultaneous walkthrough of both the 2km and 3km courses, the races got under way.
There were eight races for each age group including a girls/multi class and boys race in the 8/9 years, 10 years, 11 years and 12/13 years age groups.
The younger two age groups ran 2km, while the older age groups ran 3km.
All students who made it to Gundagai put in a great effort against the best public primary school runners from across the Riverina.
The state carnival will be held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre on July 22.
