Moama has suffered its first setback since introducing its women’s football side, falling to reigning premier Shepparton United in round two of the Goulburn Murray Women’s League.

The Mowers played their first game on home turf at Moama Recreation Reserve on Sunday, but the Demons proved too powerful over four quarters, running away with a comfortable 8.8 (56) to 1.0 (6) win.

The first period was a real arm-wrestle and, while United had the best of the field position, the Moama backline was able to hold firm through most of the quarter.
The Demons would sneak through two late goals to claim the advantage, going into the first change up 13-0.

The Mowers remained scoreless through the second term, while Shepparton United added three more majors to extend its lead to 33.
Moama would turn the tide somewhat after the break, slotting the only goal of the third to cut into the Demons’ lead, but the premier closed out the match with three unanswered to finish big winners.

The Mowers retreat to midtable after the defeat, heading into a clash with Rumbalara at home this Sunday.
