Eagles outclass Rams

The opening to the game was fairly muted, with both sides failing to make much of an impact on the scoreboard.

Hunter Beveridge kicked the opener for United, but Brett McDonald pulled things back and a series of minor scores had the Rams up a point, 9-8 at the first change.

The Eagles took over in the second, kicking the only three goals of the term, including two from Cody Haub, to lead by 18 at the half.

The Rams tried to fight back in an end-to-end third period that provided a stark contrast to the slog of the first.

Deni kicked the first major of the half to cut the deficit to two goals, but Echuca United had the response at every turn, responsible for five of the remaining seven to extend its lead to 27 points at the last break.

The Eagles would push on in the fourth, kicking the first two of the final term to put the result out of the Rams’ reach and, although Deniliquin would level out the term, United came home with the win by the three-quarter time margin, 27 points.

The side unfortunately has little opportunity to look higher, seventh-placed Moama 10 points ahead, leaving the Eagles trying to defend what they have and finish the year with some more wins.

The side could throw a wrench in Numurkah’s post-season plans as it hosts the fringe finalist at Echuca South Recreation Reserve this Saturday.
