The Bombers, who have faced challenges with numbers and are winless, were not expected to challenge Echuca at Kyabram Recreation Reserve, particularly with the excellent 3-0 start Bronwyn Slater’s side had made to 2026.
The Murray Bombers immediately displayed the gulf in class between the two sides, scoring 26 of the first 28 goals and pouring gasoline on any chance of the game being competitive.
The onslaught continued in the second quarter as Echuca added another 23 goals, though more impressive was its defensive effort, restricting Kyabram to one of its own and taking a monumental 52-4 advantage into half-time.
The visitor eased off a touch in the second half with another 21 goals in the third quarter, followed by 14 in the fourth, while Kyabram only doubled its tally with another four goals, Echuca prevailing 87-8.
There were three major goal-scorers on the night for the Murray Bombers with Sheridan Townrow, Belinda Lees and Rose Byrne adding 33, 31 and 23 goals, respectively.
Next up, Echuca will certainly face a tougher challenge when it takes on a Mooroopna outfit that also has a perfect winning record to start the 2026 season.
