Rochester Bowls Club
Once again, the inclement weather has meant that there has been no outside bowls this last week.
Hold tight - we’re checking permissions before loading more content
Fingers crossed that a bit of sunshine and fine weather comes our way this week.
The Rochester Bowls Club wishes to acknowledge the 100th birthday celebration of a local legend, Alice Prigg.
Congratulations Alice, may you continue to enjoy your footy, family and regular outings – you are to be admired and celebrated.
Friday bowls
Sadly, the inclement weather put a dampening on Friday’s scheduled bowls.
Fingers crossed that things will be right for Drawn Pairs this coming Friday, July 10.
Please note names on the list in the foyer by noon, first prize is a $5 drinks voucher, $5 entry.
Indoor bowls
On Monday evening, there were two teams who came away with a win in each of their games.
The winning team consisted of Mal MacRaild, Anton Gusak, Greg Machar and Judy Murray, with two shots up.
Unfortunately, Anton left his arm at home, but he still managed to have a win.
Indoor bowls is on again on Monday, July 6 beginning at 7pm.
Bowlers are asked to be there by 6.45pm.
Membership
Payment for the upcoming bowls season is now due. Forms can be found in the foyer; both existing and new membership forms.
Wakes
The club is hosting two wakes this week.
We are all appreciative of those members who put their hands up to volunteer in the running of these occasions.
Special appreciation to Janis Tamburini and her catering helpers.
Thanks also to Graham Willis, Rob Clayton, Allan Benson and Peter Stack who all responded to the plea for bar staff on both days.
BCGBR board
Congratulations to Kaye Barker for being part of the Region Match Committee, and being elected as one of the Campaspe representatives.
It is admirable that Kaye has put her hand up to assist in the development and organisation of bowls in the wider region, she will be an asset to the BCGBR.

Lockington Bowls Club
A quiet week on the bowling green this past week due to the cold and windy weather on most days.
The Wednesday field had small numbers for the Scrounge game.
Overall winners included Rod Fiedler, 42 points, ahead of Pos Andrea, 39.
Terrill Westwood and John Andrea had a great battle with honours even.
The bowling was a treat to watch.
On Saturday, the field increased in numbers and there was a little bit of sunshine during the day.
On rink one, Russell Shawcross came to the fore, scoring a rink winning tally of 39 points to defeat John Andrea close by on 37 points.
Just off the pace was Lorraine Appleby, 34, then Peter "Eggsy" Egan posting 28 points.
Next door Bruce Haines (Echuca) was in brilliant form to gain success and win with 41 points in a tightly packed field.
Runner-up was Rod Fiedler 38 points followed by Poss Andrea on 36 points.
Natalie McLaughlin finished just short of the placegetters with a total 22 points.
Scrounge will continue on a Wednesday and Saturday (weather permitting) starting at 1.30pm.
Rochester Golf Club
Those who were sceptical of the Rochester Golf Club's initial move to its present site off Blackculvert Rd back in the early 80's would only need to take a look at the course on Wednesday after the heavy rainfall of 50mm last Tuesday to appreciate the club’s forward thinking.
With no surface water on any fairways, the Wednesday 9-hole social golfers enjoyed lovely conditions, none better than our chef mower, Bruce Bryant.
Bryant's score of 21 Stableford points over the back nine was just enough to hold off a large group of five players on 20 points.
David Gebbie came 2nd on a countback from Richard Feuk, John Oakley, Brendan McCarty, and President Leigh Hicks, all of whom lost a shot off their handicaps due to Feuk's revised system.
Steve Bubb finally got his birdie after his close shot to the 12th.
Louise Williams is in good form to take out another ladies' championship, which starts at the end of the month.
Williams not only won last Friday's event with 33 Stableford points, but was also nearest to the pin on the 8th,12th and 16th holes.
Leisa Evans took out the other nearest the pin on the 3rd.
Treasure Julie Leahy was 2nd in the day's event.
The men were pleased to get back to a more formal game after playing off the back markers during their championship rounds.
Captain Darren White organised 4-ball teams to partner up, where they multiply their Stableford points at the end of each hole (2 x 2 points equal 4).
Unfortunately, if one partner did not score and the other has, say, 3 points, bad luck, no score is recorded.
Low handicap players, Andy Purdy and Shane Bywaters, showed what was possible for a total of 77 Stableford points on a countback from President Hicks and new golfer Darcy Pump.
David Gebbie and partner Steve Bubb were next on 72, followed by the teams of Jake Wright and Liam Keenan (65) and Robert Vise and Murray Schier (62).
Schier was closest to the 5th, Wright to the 8th, and Robert Ralph for his 2nd shot to the 9th hole.
In the other important event running concurrently on Saturday, Captain Darren White and Zac McInness defeated Brendan McCarty and Paul Evans 4/3 in the Men's 4-Ball Match Play Championship semi-final.
