Despite the margin, the contest was far closer than the final scoreboard suggests, with the Bloods matching the highly rated Rovers for much of the afternoon and taking the game right up to one of the competition’s stronger sides.
From the opening bounce, the game was played at a high intensity, with both teams willing to attack and move the ball quickly.
Tocumwal showed plenty of composure and determination, creating opportunities through hard work around the contest and disciplined team defence.
The Bloods remained in touch throughout the first half and headed into the main break trailing by just four points.
It was a testament to their effort and commitment that they were able to match the home side around the stoppages and deny the Rovers any significant scoreboard advantage.
Led by captain Jack Tyndall and a hardworking midfield group, Tocumwal continued to compete strongly and looked capable of causing an upset.
However, after half-time, Deniliquin Rovers began to gain greater control of the contest.
Their ability to win territory and capitalise on opportunities in front of goal gradually saw the margin widen.
While Tocumwal continued to battle hard and never stopped competing, the home side’s depth and experience eventually proved decisive as they pulled away to secure a four-goal victory.
There were still positives for the Bloods, particularly the effort shown throughout the afternoon against quality opposition.
Raymond Sutton was outstanding in attack, finishing with four goals and providing a constant target inside the forward 50.
Brayden Hall added two majors and was among Tocumwal’s most influential players, while Logan White, Max O’Neil, Nate Grieves and Kyle Maher each contributed a goal.
Among the best for Tocumwal were Brayden Hall, Kyle Maher and Raymond Sutton, all of whom played pivotal roles throughout the day.
Captain Jack Tyndall once again led from the front with his trademark determination and leadership, while Tex Flack and Adam Kent continued their strong seasons with important contributions across the ground.
The Bloods can take confidence from their ability to remain competitive for prolonged periods against a quality side and will look to build on the many positives from the performance as they prepare for the coming rounds.
The players once again demonstrated the spirit, resilience and team-first attitude that has become a feature of their football this season.
With several young players continuing to develop and senior leaders setting the standard, the Bloods remain well-placed to finish the year strongly.
