Goulburn Broken CMA floodplain program manager Guy Tierney said flood levels would be made publicly available to assist in reducing community impacts from major floods.
“This step will fill a gap in information for people building a house in Nagambie,” Mr Tierney said.
“Declared flood levels can be used for planning and building purposes, and the information is available from the Goulburn Broken CMA website.
“Anyone who intends to build can access this information to ensure the finished floor levels of their property are at the correct height to avoid the risk of flooding in a one-in-100 chance of occurrence in any given year.”
The proposed flood levels are based on the Nagambie Flood Study, completed in 2017.
The community drop-in session to learn more about the Goulburn Broken CMA’s intention to declare new flood levels for Nagambie is on Thursday, March 26, from 4pm to 6pm at the Nagambie Lakes Regatta Centre, 66 Loddings Lane.
“This is an opportunity to speak with CMA floodplain staff, find out more, ask questions and provide feedback,” Mr Tierney said.
The flood level plans are also available for inspection at the CMA offices located at: 168 Welsford St, Shepparton; 89 Sydney Rd, Benalla; and 5/10 High St, Yea.
A six-week public submission period is now open.
Written submissions are open until Thursday, April 23, and should be marked “Declaration and Revocation Submission” and be addressed to the Chief Executive Officer, Goulburn Broken CMA, PO Box 1752, Shepparton 3632 or via email at planning@gbcma.vic.gov.au.
