The record beats her previous best average sale price of $1100, set last year.
All 52 flock rams and four potential stud rams from the Millswyn stud at Katandra were sold — with $1800 the highest price paid on the day.
“I believe these rams are some of the best I’ve ever bred, I’m pleased with how they grew without much fuss and I hope you all get what you want,” Ms Morgan told the 20 gathered buyers at the October 7 sale.
Auctioneer Shelby Howard said the rams presented very well on the day and “everyone knows lamb is in a very good spot right now”.
“There were some volume buyers who took home eight to six each,” Mr Howard said.
The top-priced ram went to Dale West from the Violet Town area, second-priced ram to a livestock agent for $1600 and third-priced to a Miepoll buyer for $1500.
Farm workers Wayne Lockhart and Todd Heaysman from Glenaroua attended the sale looking to purchase flock rams for Merino ewes.
“We’re looking for a low birth weight and high growth,” Mr Heaysman said.
“We’re seeing quite good figures here … this is our third year buying from Helen.”
Father-son farmers Barry and Robert Daldy were also looking to cross the White Suffolk rams with Merino ewes.
“We’ve been buying from here a long time,” Barry said.
“These guys here are nice and quiet, and it's hard to find quiet rams.”
Robert said the winter-spring had been a good season
“Just about the perfect season for sheep. Wet, but not too wet,” he said.
“With the abattoirs back to full staff the prices have gone up about $22 a head, it's quite good.”
Rodney Brook from Nagambie has been buying from Ms Morgan since 2005.
“We run a self-replacing Merino flock and have a couple others we join to the White Suffolks,” Mr Brook said.
“I’m hoping to buy three to four today … this season has been the best I’ve seen since 1983.”
Northgate Park’s Scott Oliver travelled from Wangaratta to attend the sale.
“We’re looking for a couple of rams to fill our composite herd and get some breed maternals from,” Mr Oliver said.
“They are all looking really good here today, but with this rain, if you can’t get them looking good in this weather you’ll be wanting to give them away.”
The sale was run by agents Charles Stewart Dove.
