Groups have access to $1.76million, with project grants of up to $20000 available for on-ground works, education and capacity-building projects to improve Victoria’s environment.
Support grants of $500 are also available for new and existing groups and networks to help with operating costs.
The funding is delivered through Victoria’s 10 catchment management authorities, with the aim of highlighting environmental outcomes which can be achieved through co-operation between the authorities, environment groups, local communities and the government.
Opening the grants program, Victorian Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio emphasised the importance of volunteers when it came to environmental sustainability.
‘‘Volunteers are at the front line in protecting our environment and we’re giving them the support they need to continue this important work,’’ she said.
‘‘These grants will help volunteer groups to boost their capacity and undertake new projects that protect and restore our environment.’’
State Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp said the funds could be put to good use in the local region.
‘‘These environment grants have seen fantastic pest control, biodiversity, anti-weed, preservation and farming resilience projects supported across northern Victoria,’’ he said.
