May 10 is the last day water orders can be submitted, with customers with on-farm tanks and dams reminded to fill them before May 15.
‘‘It is important our customers know and understand the options available to them with any unused water allocation,’’ water delivery interim general manager Peter Clydesdale said.
‘‘These include using your water before May 15, carrying over water into the next irrigation season, selling, trading or relinquishing water.’’
More than 19700 irrigators and diverters will soon receive an end-of-season newsletter with important information on their options, reminders of key dates and deadlines and where to go for further assistance.
Mr Clydesdale said G-MW could not guarantee access to irrigation water from the channel system from May 15 to the opening of the irrigation season on August 15.
‘‘We are mindful it has been an unusually dry and hot season and some irrigation customers may wish to water beyond May 15,’’ he said.
‘‘In certain circumstances and locations, where our scheduled capital works are not affected, customers can contact us and we may be able to accommodate a late delivery.’’
Mr Clydesdale said G-MW also had formal out-of-season arrangements with a small number of irrigation customers whose specific operations required water delivery in the irrigation off-season.
‘‘The vast majority of our customers, however, will not irrigate over winter and now need to consider their options with any unused water allocation,’’ he said.
The annual three-month winter shutdown will allow G-MW and the Connections project to perform maintenance and capital upgrades to the irrigation delivery network across the Goulburn Murray Irrigation District.
