Fans don't wanna be left out of Powderfinger reunion

Longtime fan Joel Connolly will have several devices primed to enter three different pre-sales, and if that doesn't work, he'll try for a general ticket release on Monday..

"This part of the process for big shows is a nightmare, it's almost always really difficult to get tickets," Connolly told AAP.

"I'm going to have to pull some magic out of a hat because there's absolutely no way I'm missing it."

The tour will start in the band's hometown of Brisbane and take in Cairns, Perth, Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne.

Shows will be staged in a stadium-sized big top, but it's not clear how many people the outdoor venues will hold, and fans online are anxious they might miss out.

Brisbane fan Erica Swannell was prepared to fly to anywhere in Australia to see her favourite band, but has already won tickets through radio station Triple M.

"I couldn't believe it when I actually got through because I rang 15 times in a row, and on the 15th call I got through, so I was stoked," she told AAP.

"I'm just so excited to have actually scored a ticket before anyone else, I was over the moon," said Swannell.

A former band manager, Connolly first discovered Powderfinger as a teenager during the 1990s, when he heard a track from Double Allergic on Triple J and recorded it onto cassette tape.

"They're so Australian to me, there was a point where if there was a barbecue in someone's backyard, you'd always hear Powderfinger playing," he said.

"All that stuff is so rooted in a specific place and time that carries a lot of meaning and a lot of memories, so I'm just stoked they're back."
