As preparation for silage season begins to ramp up, we asked Michael’s Moama to spotlight some of the machinery that’s keeping farmers moving.

Michael’s Group, a family business that began in Donald more than 25 years ago, is now Australia’s largest JCB dealer, with the Moama branch servicing farmers across the border region.
Daniel from their Moama branch said leading the tractor lineup was the JCB Fastrac 8330 iCON, one of the dealership’s top sellers for silage work.
Built around an 8.4 litre, six-cylinder engine, the Fastrac claims the title of the world’s fastest production tractor, with a top speed of 70km/h.
In fact, a modified JCB Fasttrac currently holds the world record as the fastest tractor ever, reaching a speed of 247km/h.
A CVT transmission, all-round suspension and a hydrostatic dual steering system round out a machine JCB says offers more versatility than anything else in its class, paired with what the company describes as its largest, most comfortable cab to date.
The JCB Fastrac 8330 tractor is a workhorse, boasting 252 horsepower.
On the loader side, the new JCB 435S Agri brings a 6.7-litre engine producing 188kW (252hp), a 9.5 per cent power increase on its predecessor, and 1186N-m of torque, up 25.5 per cent.
Notably, the engine runs without a diesel particulate filter, a feature JCB said cuts servicing costs and reduces fire risk during regeneration.
The redesigned cab includes a panoramic windscreen, twin LCD screens and seat-mounted controls, while a hydraulic cooling fan and load-sensing hydraulics are aimed at trimming fuel use during long silage days.
Not shabby at all.

The 435S also has a bigger brother, the 457S Agri wheel loader.
It offers a choice between 224hp standard and 282hp dynamic power modes, giving operators flexibility between fuel efficiency and raw power.
A six-speed power shift transmission, optional high-lift arms (going up to 4.8m) and a tow hitch rated to 20,000kg towing capacity make it suited to hard work and heavier loads.
Both loaders come fitted with LiveLink telematics, allowing real-time monitoring of machine health and service needs.
For growers gearing up for another silage run, Michael’s Moama said these machines were built to handle the hardest work.
