To say it was enjoyable would be a lie.
However, we got through it with the help of family and friends, and now we are settling into country life on 20 acres.
New birds wake us as the sun rises, and we are enjoying different flowers and open spaces outdoors, all while breathing in the fresh country air and taking in a night sky full of stars.
However, the change has also made me reflect and put a lot into perspective.
It has reminded me of something my Mum used to say, “A home is where the heart is,” and right now, that could not feel more true.
Our homes are the places where we feel safest, most relaxed and inspired, and where we make memories that last a lifetime, it’s a reminder of why we treasure every corner, every project and every moment spent at home.
With the cost of living on the rise and more families spending time at home, eating in, growing fresh produce, tackling DIY projects and giving spaces a bit of TLC, I wanted this edition to reflect the changes many are experiencing.
So, I have pulled together heaps of inspiration for you.
There are winter gardening tips, ways to bring the grass back after a dry summer, delicious recipes, clever small space solutions, a fun pet story, cleaning hacks, tips on energy savings, winter reads, and yes, even a man cave for the guys.
There is something here for everyone to enjoy.
And there are definitely a couple of highlights you will want to flip straight too.
I was kindly welcomed into the old Cashel Bank in Dookie for a personal tour, which is a must-see and must read.
The Fleming family has transformed the historic bank into a charming family home where history, community and timeless beauty come together.
Meg Pethybridge provided an array of information on the Alternative Living Gathering, which has grown immensely over the past few years.
The group welcomes newcomers who want to grow their own food, no prior experience required.
Shepparton artist Joan Erikson also gave me an insight into her artistic world, where art and florals intertwine so seamlessly.
There is a lot jam-packed into this edition, so get comfy and enjoy the read.
And remember, your home is where the heart is, where love, laughter and everything about our homes intertwine.
Enjoy and until next time,
Features and Magazine editor Kelly Lucas-Carmody and the Our Home team
