"I hate myself, I hate who I am, I hate my name, I hate my whole existence," Glenn Gary Cameron told his sentencing judge on Monday.
"But I did it.
"I'm really sorry, believe me ... I feel helpless."
The former funeral director, better known as the "Night Stalker" or "Moore Park Rapist", is being sentenced after DNA analysis unearthed him living in Alice Springs.
Between 1991 and 1993, he lured women to secluded parts of Sydney's Moore Park and the inner west before attacking them at knifepoint.
"If you don't let me do this, I will kill you," Cameron told one victim, according to court documents.
Now 62, he told the district court on Monday he was in a poor marriage and had an extensive history of abusing alcohol and other drugs when he lured his first victim from Strathfield train station in April 1991.
At knifepoint, he forced her to the ground.
Other victims had the knife pressed into their back or placed over their eyes.
Cameron testified he liked the power he felt when raping the women and knew he was hurting them, albeit not fully appreciating the harm.
"I know this sounds preposterous ... I did want them to like me," he testified on Monday.
"I know it sounds so stupid, but I thought by scaring them or talking ... them around, eventually they'd like me."
Cameron denied knowing about extensive media coverage of the elusive Moore Park rapist, or that it triggered him to cease or adapt his "insidious and heinous" crimes.
Instead, his then-wife fell pregnant and he was driven to change, he said.
Decades on, as his third and longest partner flew out of Australia to travel and buy her wedding dress, police swiped his airport cutlery.
It confirmed his DNA matched that found on four victims.
Detectives met the practising Buddhist on his return to Australia in February 2024.
"I brought shame to those innocent people (victims) and it was all my doing," he said in court before breaking down, crying into his hands.
"I don't care what happens to me any more. I am sorry."
Asked why he'd never sought help or confessed, Cameron said he did not have the answers but knew he'd end up in jail.
"I was a coward," he said.
He recalled only parts of the crimes but did not dispute the women's full accounts "because these people just don't make it up".
His evidence and cross-examination came after Judge John Pickering questioned what weight could be applied to an unsworn letter Cameron wrote to the court, detailing remorse.
The judge had also dismissed a defence submission that the sense of power Cameron discussed was "driven to some extent from his upbringing and experiences".
He had reported instances of serious childhood abuse and being orphaned aged six.
"That's a fairly extreme position," Judge Pickering told Cameron's lawyer before the offender testified.
"Thank God he's only one of the very few men who has that feeling within him."
Judge Pickering said remorse would make up only a small element of his sentence, stressing repeatedly the violence of Cameron's crimes,
He also noted the attacks were not long before the August 2000 pack rapes of teenage girls.
The ringleader of those attacks - Bilal Skaf - is serving a 36-year term.
Cameron pleaded guilty to 13 charges and admitted another 14 that will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
Nine charges - including that Cameron punched two women in the head, hit another in the face multiple times and robbed two women - were withdrawn by prosecutors in September 2025.Â
Cameron will be sentenced at a later date.
